Tollie red kites is now up and running! For directions to this new feeding station please see the following map.
Since the winter of 2009 we have been placing a small amount of carrion on the dinner table here to entice red kites to come down and feed. This food is placed out in the afternoon to ensure kites don’t come to depend on it as they will have to hunt in the morning for natural sources of carrion.
Kites are highly acrobatic and social and it is quite a sight to see them before, during and after a feeding frenzy! Over time, they will become used to the feeding routine at Tollie and gradually numbers will begin to build up at this site. For the best chance to see a red kite up close come and visit us at feeding time where friendly staff and volunteers will be on hand to interpret the scene. Feeding time is 2.30 pm in the summer and 1.30 pm in winter, seven days a week.

The kites will be easy to see if they have come in to feed however a pair of binoculars or even a telescope may be handy for spotting wing tags on a perched red kite. For helpful pointers in reading wing tags please see the following downloads:

Tollie Red Kites is one of the newer feeding stations around. Since the mid-1990s these purpose built sites have been developed in Wales and elsewhere in the UK to provide fantastic opportunities for watching red kites and enthusing visitors.
